F/OSS projects by Clever Age

New cleverbox release : 0.4.3

This one is aimed at Debian Etch users : it will make easier to install and use the cleverbox for them, as it’s now impossible to run it along with the buggy trac-0.10.3.
This is should be the last release of the 0.4 branch, and i’m now focusing on the 0.5 branch.

Beautiful SVG graphics with CleverSvg

CleverSvg is an Open Source library that permits to generate SVG documents using PHP5. SVG stands for “Scalable Vector Graphics”, a XML-based format designed for the description of two-dimensional vector graphics. SVG is a W3C Recommendation, and is natively supported by major web browsers, including Gecko-based browsers (Firefox, for instance).

A simple SVG graphic generated using CleverSvgToday, we at Clever Age think that this useful library is stable enough to be released under the LGPL license. For now, CleverSvg correctly supports a lot of shapes, images, text, links. CleverSVG also handles scripts inclusion (ecmascripts and/or javascripts) and CSS support. Patches, bug reports and feature requests will be warmly welcomed !

Happy SVGing!

New cleverbox release : 0.4.2

Hey everyone,

Here’s the new Cleverbox. It introduces :

  • a better default configuration profile. It provides three services for each project : “trac”, “subversion” and “documents” (a webdav share). All services share the same file based authentication backend.
  • .deb packaging. apt-get install cleverbox. yey !

The full changelog is available at http://www.clever-age.org/trac/wiki/cleverbox#a2008-02-240.4.2-beta

Please note : there’s a nasty bug in trac-0.10.3 that prevent the cleverbox from working. Unfortunately, that’s the version of Trac you’ill find in Debian Etch. So you’ll have either to upgrade the Trac package or install it from sources.

I’ll eventually release a workaround in cleverbox-0.4.3 or cleverbox-0.5, depending on whichever comes first :)

Enjoy !

Introducing : cleverbox-0.4

I’m glad to announce this important milestone : cleverbox-0.4 is the first public release, and is licensed under an open-source license (GPL3). It’s also the first project to be published on the brand new clever-age.org.

What is the cleverbox ?

The cleverbox provides an interactive command line shell dedicated to the deployment and maintenance of trac and subversion instances.

It can handle multiple configuration profiles, enabling the deployment of differently flavored type of project (trac configuration and permissions, apache configuration templates, etc).

Project’s main objective is to make your life as simple as possible. Thus, it comes with easy installation, easy upgrades and a comprehensive documentation.

Is it stable enough for production use ?

Despite being marked as “beta”, the project can be safely used in production :

  • the projects its based on are stable : python, subversion, trac
  • it’s been used daily here at Clever Age for more than two years. It now handles approximatively 150 trac / svn instances
  • as of version 0.3, each release comes (if needed) with automated upgrade scripts

No future ?

On the contrary, the community is continuously growing and a clear roadmap has been established :

  • cleverbox-0.4.2 : maintenance release.
  • cleverbox-0.5 : creation of a (simple) domain for the application, and enable all operations to be performed without human interaction. This will open the way for the development of other frontends (web, etc).
  • cleverbox-0.6 : refactoring the cleverbox to the “command” design pattern, while providing an unchanged level of functionnality.
  • cleverbox-0.7 : building on the previous refactoring : atomic operations and extensible command set.

Interested ?

Welcome, clever-age.org !

For several years, Clever Age has proved its interest in Free and Open Source Software (F/OSS), and the recent years have seen many contributions from Clever Age to the Open Source world, among an extended panel of projects:

  • the content management system SPIP, with plugins and many bugfixes,
  • GRR, for which we implemented a moderation module,
  • and of course the ODF-Converter plugin for Microsoft Office, that enables the import/export of OpenOffice documents to/from the leading Desktop Suite

Today, it is time for us to launch our new F/OSS website, which will be the central place for all our future contributions to the Open Source world. With humility and respect towards the beautiful code, we hope that our contributions will be helpful to you !

Cheers,

The Clever Age team
